During the past year 2023/2024, Eastwood Chinatown has been becoming a community hub as well as a community interest in the local area. The past Ryde Council provided a kind of on-the-record support to the proposal of Eastwood Chinatown, or 145CT.

As a northwestern business community, we Northwest Chinese Business Association Incorporated are keenly interested in the Eastwood Chinatown and wish to know the attitude of Ryde Council candidates toward the Eastwood Chinatown.

We are inviting Ryde Council candidates in the 2024 Local Government Elections to share their views on the Eastwood Chinatown.

Q1:

Any allocation of funds must undergo rigorous discussions, planning and fund sourcing. My Labor team and I would be happy to discuss your future projects and the funding necessary to meet these outcomes - based on merit and practibility. In line with this, we will work with the Chinese community to get the best outcomes for all residents - including the potential of a community centre and formalising the place-naming of this area of Eastwood.

Q2:

The area allocated for this proposed precinct has already been discussed with Council and the working group involved.

Q3:

The biggest issue around Glen Park is the car park and parking in general. Labor proposed, after a parking and traffic study in 2019, to move the car park to Shaftsbury Road and develop the site of the existing car park.

Q1:

Yes, I am aware that the Ryde Council provided funding for Koreatown Eastwood in the amount of $100,000. I believe that it is equally important to allocate a similar amount to support Eastwood Chinatown, given its significant role as a cultural and community hub. Funding of this nature demonstrates a commitment to supporting cultural diversity, promoting local businesses, and enhancing the vibrancy of our community.

Q2:

Yes, I support the idea of expanding the Eastwood Chinatown precinct to include Rowe Street West and Glen Street Carpark. Expanding the precinct to these areas would provide several benefits such as Increased Space for Events and Activities; Improved Connectivity and Accessibility and Economic Boost.

Q3:

Yes, I agree that renovating Glen Reserve in Eastwood could be a fantastic initiative to enhance the community space and contribute to the vibrancy of the Eastwood Chinatown precinct. A well-designed renovation could transform Glen Reserve into a multi-functional, welcoming area that meets the needs of local residents, families, and visitors. Here's what a renovated Glen Reserve might include children's play area and landscape enhancement with green space
